Vanta vs Drata: a sourced comparison

The two best-known compliance automation platforms, compared on what each says publicly — then where an EU-built third option fits.

Vanta and Drata are close substitutes: both automate evidence collection for SOC 2, ISO 27001 and a broad catalogue of other frameworks, neither publishes prices, and both sell an entry tier limited to one framework. Vanta states the larger catalogue (35+ frameworks to Drata's 30+) and lists the EU AI Act as a framework; Drata caps its entry tier at 50 employees and lets every customer choose a European hosting region, where Vanta defaults to the US unless an EU tenant is requested.

Written by Noru, a vendor in the same category. Both products are described from their own public pages, last checked on .

What Vanta says it does

Vanta describes itself as one automated platform bringing together compliance, risk and customer trust, and states coverage of SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and 35+ frameworks. Its framework list includes NIS 2, DORA, GDPR, the EU AI Act and ISO 42001 alongside US government frameworks such as FedRAMP and CMMC.

Pricing is not published. Vanta sells four tiers — Essentials, Plus, Professional and Enterprise — with Essentials covering one compliance framework. Professional services are not part of the subscription; an auditor bundle is available separately. An EU region in Frankfurt exists, but tenants default to the US region unless an EU tenant is requested.

What Drata says it does

Drata calls itself an agentic trust management platform built around AI agents that automate compliance. It lists 30+ pre-built frameworks, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, NIS 2, DORA, ISO 42001, HIPAA and FedRAMP; the EU AI Act appears only within its AI agent governance product, marked limited availability.

Pricing is not published. Drata sells three compliance tiers — Foundation, Advanced and Enterprise — with Foundation capped at 50 employees and one framework, and additional frameworks listed as an add-on. Audits run through a directory of partner firms. Customers choose a hosting region: North America, Europe or Asia-Pacific.

Choose Vanta when

You want the larger stated framework catalogue, the EU AI Act alongside US government frameworks, and the option of buying the audit through the platform vendor's auditor bundle.

Choose Drata when

You are under 50 employees and starting with one framework, want to pick a European hosting region at sign-up, or want unlimited AI questionnaire uploads from the middle tier.

The third option

When neither is the right fit

Noru is built in Stockholm for companies whose obligations are European as much as they are SOC 2: GDPR records of processing, NIS2, DORA and the EU AI Act alongside ISO 27001, run from one control library across 30+ frameworks. EU data residency is the default for every customer rather than a region you request — AI inference is the one activity that may leave the EEA, and it runs under EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Its sharpest difference from all three is privacy operations: Article 30 records and a data map derived from source code and CI, so the register changes when the systems do. If your shortlist is a choice between two US-built security compliance platforms and privacy sits on your desk too, Noru is worth one demo. If you need CMMC, it is not the right tool: CMMC is not in Noru's framework catalogue.

Noru does not publish a price list either; it licenses the platform plus capability packages, priced per deployment, with a written quote after a demo.

FAQ

Vanta vs Drata questions answered

Talk to us

Is Vanta or Drata cheaper?

Neither publishes prices, so a buyer can only compare written quotes. Both put one framework on the entry tier, and Drata lists additional frameworks as an add-on on every tier. Our Vanta and Drata pricing guides set out the third-party figures that are on the public record, with sources and dates.

Which supports more frameworks, Vanta or Drata?

Vanta states 35+ frameworks and Drata 30+. Both list SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, NIS 2, DORA, ISO 42001, HIPAA and FedRAMP. Vanta lists the EU AI Act as a framework; Drata covers it within its agent governance product, which it marks as limited availability.

Can Vanta and Drata host data in the EU?

Both can. Drata lets customers choose North America, Europe or Asia-Pacific. Vanta runs an EU region in Frankfurt, but its help centre says the US region applies unless an EU tenant was requested — so ask for it explicitly.

Do Vanta or Drata include the audit?

Neither includes it by default. Vanta's terms exclude professional services from the subscription and offer an optional auditor bundle. Drata runs a directory of partner audit firms and does not state on its pages that audit fees are included.

Do they train AI on our compliance data?

Noru, the third option on this page, never uses customer data to train, fine-tune or evaluate a model, and runs every AI feature under zero data retention terms — both written into its Terms and DPA. Ask any vendor you shortlist for the same commitments in writing.
