Comparison

Drata vs Secureframe: a sourced comparison

Two compliance automation platforms with similar entry tiers, compared on what each says publicly — then where an EU-built third option fits.

Drata and Secureframe both sell a one-framework entry tier and charge for frameworks beyond it, and both route audits through partner firms. Drata states 30+ frameworks and lets customers host in Europe; Secureframe lists the EU AI Act as a framework, publishes a starting price for its entry tier and sells a CMMC-specific tier, but hosts European customers in London, in the UK, rather than in an EU member state.

What Drata says it does

Drata calls itself an agentic trust management platform built around AI agents that automate compliance. It lists 30+ pre-built frameworks, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, NIS 2, DORA, ISO 42001, HIPAA and FedRAMP; the EU AI Act appears only within its AI agent governance product, marked limited availability.

Pricing is not published. Drata sells three compliance tiers — Foundation, Advanced and Enterprise — with Foundation capped at 50 employees and one framework, and additional frameworks listed as an add-on. Audits run through a directory of partner firms. Customers choose a hosting region: North America, Europe or Asia-Pacific.

What Secureframe says it does

Secureframe describes compliance, risk and trust automation backed by in-house compliance experts. It lists named frameworks rather than a total, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, NIS2, DORA, the EU AI Act, ISO 42001, HIPAA and FedRAMP, plus custom frameworks.

Secureframe publishes a starting price for its Fundamentals tier and quotes Complete and Defense, a CMMC-focused tier. Each tier includes one framework, with more available to add. Audits run through its Audit Partner Network. Customers choose AWS US East or AWS London for hosting, with further European regions described as coming soon.

Choose Drata when

You want hosting in an EU region chosen at sign-up, unlimited AI questionnaire uploads from the middle tier, or Compliance as Code on the top tier.

Choose Secureframe when

You want a published starting price, the EU AI Act as a listed framework today, or a tier built specifically for CMMC.

The third option

When neither is the right fit

Noru is built in Stockholm for companies whose obligations are European as much as they are SOC 2: GDPR records of processing, NIS2, DORA and the EU AI Act alongside ISO 27001, run from one control library across 30+ frameworks. EU data residency is the default for every customer rather than a region you request — AI inference is the one activity that may leave the EEA, and it runs under EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Its sharpest difference from all three is privacy operations: Article 30 records and a data map derived from source code and CI, so the register changes when the systems do. If your shortlist is a choice between two US-built security compliance platforms and privacy sits on your desk too, Noru is worth one demo. If you need CMMC, it is not the right tool: CMMC is not in Noru's framework catalogue.

Noru does not publish a price list either; it licenses the platform plus capability packages, priced per deployment, with a written quote after a demo.

FAQ

Drata vs Secureframe questions answered

Talk to us

Is Drata or Secureframe cheaper?

Secureframe publishes a starting price for Fundamentals; Drata publishes none. Both charge for frameworks beyond the first, so compare written quotes for the same framework list. Our Drata and Secureframe pricing guides set out the figures on the public record, with sources and dates.

Which hosts data in the EU, Drata or Secureframe?

Drata lets customers choose a European region. Secureframe offers AWS US East or AWS London — the UK rather than the EU — with further European regions described as coming soon.

Does Drata or Secureframe support the EU AI Act?

Secureframe lists the EU AI Act among its frameworks. Drata covers it within its AI agent governance product, which it marks as limited availability. Both list ISO 42001.

Do Drata or Secureframe include the audit?

Neither says so. Drata runs a directory of partner audit firms; Secureframe gives access to its Audit Partner Network and says the cost depends on the auditor.

Do they train AI on our compliance data?

Noru, the third option on this page, never uses customer data to train, fine-tune or evaluate a model, and runs every AI feature under zero data retention terms — both written into its Terms and DPA. Ask any vendor you shortlist for the same commitments in writing.
